LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A 5-year-old girl from northern Indiana who went missing in southern Indiana was found safe in Louisville.

Clarksville police said the child went missing Thursday night in Clarksville after the her mother got into a fight with her boyfriend and kicked them both out of the car.

Police said they believe the mom later picked them back up and took the girl to a family friend on Garfield Avenue in Louisville's Portland neighborhood.

Clarksville police said they worked with the FBI and Louisville Metro Police and used license plate-reading cameras to track the mother and locate the girl.

The mom left town, but police said she will return to Clarksville where she is facing a child neglect charge.

The 5-year-old is safe and will return to northern Indiana to be with family, police said.
