LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville family is still searching for answers after a 15-year-old was killed in the Algonquin neighborhood.
Friday would've been Raymel Atkins' 16th birthday. Raymel was killed on Sept. 5 just before noon in the Algonquin neighborhood on West Gaulbert Avenue near South 22nd Street.
On Saturday, Atkins' family and friends held a balloon release in his honor. His mother, Minuette, said he was always laughing and joking.
"He was a ray of sunshine," she said. "Yesterday and today has been beautiful and I know it is just him shining down on us."
There are no known suspects at this time, and anyone with information is asked to call the LMPD crime tipline at 502-574-LMPD (574-5673) or use the online crime tip portal. You can remain anonymous.
