LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville mom is pleading for justice after her son was killed nearly five months ago.
Friday would've been Raymel Atkins' 16th birthday. His mom, Minuette, said each and every day has been difficult without him.
Raymel was killed on Sept. 5 just before noon in the Algonquin neighborhood on West Gaulbert Avenue near South 22nd Street.
His mom said it was right outside their home. She said on his 16th birthday she remembers how wildly funny her son was.Â
It's also a time for her to reflect on his death and wants justice. She said someone knows something.
"Tell. Call the detective. Let him know. My son was 15 years old. It's not snitching, it's doing the right thing. It's doing the right thing, because a life was taken for nothing, for nothing," Minuette Atkins said.
She's releasing balloons in his honor Saturday. It'll be at 4 p.m. at the location where he was killed.
"My son was murdered for no reason, and until the cycle's broke it's gonna continue," she said. "Somebody has to step up."
