LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Louisville Metro Corrections officer found shot to death in an alley last month was laid to rest Saturday morning.

Friends, family and members of the public gathered at Fern Creek Baptist Church to remember LMDC Officer Michael Wehdah.

Wehdah, 44, was found shot to death in an alley in the 2700 block of Cedar Street in the city's Russell neighborhood Feb. 16.

Police are still searching for a suspect.

During his visitation Friday, LMDC Chief Jerry Collins called Wehdah "a great man" who "immediately made an impact with officers with his work ethic and how he conducted himself."

Collins compared his death to the loss of a family member.

"It's a new family, it's your work family, and everybody comes together," he said. "It's heart-wrenching."

Wehdah had been with the department since 2024. A memorial fund for his family has raised over $10,000. Burial took place following the funeral at Resthaven Memorial Park.
