LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — An Illinois woman was arrested Friday after police said she drove away from a traffic stop, leading troopers on a chase in southern Indiana.
According to Indiana State Police, 36-year-old Leanna Accardi, of Granite City, Illinois, was clocked driving 83 mph in a 55 mph construction zone on Interstate 64 at 3 p.m. Aug. 14.
A trooper pulled her over and found that she was driving with a suspended license and "allegedly would not provide proof of insurance." When the trooper returned to his patrol vehicle, Accardi drove off.
During a pursuit, the trooper conducted an immobilization technique known as a PIT maneuver just west of the Sherman Minton Bridge, disabling the vehicle.
Once stopped, police said Accardi resisted arrest and the trooper deployed his taser. She was taken into custody and medically cleared at Baptist Health Floyd before being taken to the Floyd County Jail.
Accardi was charged with two counts of resisting law enforcement, reckless driving causing damage and being a repeat insurance violator.
