LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The man arrested Thursday after fighting with police, speeding away on Interstate 65 in Hardin County and running into a cornfield is from out of state.
A news release Friday from Kentucky State Police identified the man as 26-year-old Jecore King from Eight Mile, Alabama.
The incident started around 4 p.m. Thursday. A trooper was conducting speed enforcement on I-65 North near the 61 mile marker when he stopped a Dodge Challenger driven by King for speeding. When the trooper asked King to exit the vehicle after smelling marijuana, "a struggle ensued before King returned to the car and fled from the trooper northbound on I-65."
During the pursuit, police said King passed other vehicles in the emergency lane, reaching speeds of 130 mph, before the vehicle hit an embankment around the 85 mile marker, according to the release.
Police said King then took off running into a cornfield near the interstate, armed with a handgun. Officers from the Elizabethtown Police Department and the Hardin County Sheriff's Office joined troopers to surround the area.
King was located several hours later, around 7 p.m. with assistance from the Elizabethtown Police Department's special response team and KSP's aircraft unit. He was arrested and taken to the Hardin County Detention Center.
King is charged with fleeing and evading, reckless driving, resisting arrest, wanton endangerment and other traffic-related offenses. A judge in Hardin District Court entered a not guilty plea Friday on King's behalf. His bond was set at $25,000 cash.
King is due back in court on Nov. 1.
