LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The Kentucky State Police Trooper of the Year for the Elizabethtown Post was arrested Friday and charged with DUI.
According to court records, 25-year-old Tyler Walters was stopped by an Elizabethtown police officer at 3:39 p.m.
His blood alcohol level was .083. He was also charged with possession of an open alcohol container in a vehicle.
Walters was named Trooper of the Year last month at an award ceremony.
He was released from jail on pre-arraignment release. A district judge set his cash bond at $1,000. He is due in court Aug. 31.
In a statement, a KSP spokesperson said Walters was in a personal vehicle and "not acting in any official capacity" at the time of the arrest.
KSP said Walters was suspended Aug. 7 pending the outcome of an internal affairs investigation.
