LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 33-year-old Louisville man was arrested in the Portland neighborhood earlier this week after he tried to escape Louisville police detectives on a tractor.

It happened Monday, according to court documents. That's when officers were conducting mobile surveillance on Aaron Kidwell, who was wanted on a bench warrant. After detectives observed him getting into vehicle with a "tan and black colored Glock style" gun with an extended magazine, they followed him to a residence on N. 44th Street.

Later in the day, Kidwell was seen leaving the residence in a Kubota tractor. Detectives then activated blue lights and sirens and attempted to stop Kidwell, but he continued driving the tractor, through a lot on Slevin Street, before he crashed into a chain link fence, disabling the tractor.

That's when police said Kidwell exited the tractor and was taken into custody. Officers at the scene a Glock 17 9mm handgun "equipped with a machine gun conversion device" along with an extended magazine under the tractor. Kidwell, who has a felony conviction out of Indiana and is prohibited from owning firearms, told police he carries the gun for protection.

Police also found two glass pipes "commonly used to smoke illicit narcotics."

Kidwell was booked into Louisville Metro Corrections. He's charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, criminal mischief, fleeing or evading police, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He pleaded not guilty in his first court appearance on Tuesday. The judge set his bond at $25,000 cash. Kidwell is due back in arraignment court on Feb. 21.
