LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A former day care worker at Kidz Korner Learning Academy in Fern Creek is facing charges after being accused of abusing a toddler in her care more than a year ago.

Reenita Dues, the former employee, was arrested earlier this week after a traffic stop for speeding led to the discovery of an outstanding warrant related to the alleged incident.

According to a police report, the abuse occurred in December 2023. The report states that Dues struck a 3-year-old child on the head, causing the child to hit her head on the floor. It further alleges that Dues then lifted the child by her waistband and grabbed her by the arms in an attempt to make her stand.

However, the owner of Kidz Korner Learning Academy disputes some of the details. She claims that video footage of the incident does not show Dues hitting the child. Instead, the video reportedly depicts the toddler sitting on a chair before being pushed off by Dues, resulting in the child’s head hitting the floor. The daycare owner said that both she and the toddler’s father filed police reports immediately after the incident.

Dues was terminated from her position at the day care as soon as the allegations came to light. Following her dismissal, the owner alleges that Dues vandalized the daycare facility.

Parents familiar with Dues shared additional concerns. Some reported that she occasionally made inappropriate comments and even attempted to give parents the wrong child on at least one occasion. Despite these claims, several parents expressed confidence in the daycare’s strict vetting process for employees.

She is expected to appear in court next week to face the charges.
