LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 21-year-old man was arrested after running a stop sign and hitting another car, nearly missing a pedestrian in the crosswalk Monday night.

According to an arrest citation, Dashawn Garrison was driving erratically on South 26th Street, when an officer began to follow him. As the officer was following him, they realized his temporary registration plate was not displayed correctly.

Garrison started to speed even faster and the officer attempted to pull him over, which police said he disregarded.

Shortly after, a different officer was conducting an unrelated investigation at South 28th and Magazine Streets when they saw Garrison run a stop sign at  high rate of speed, according to the citation.

Garrison hit a car that was driving through the intersection and then came to a stop after hitting a tree. Before he hit the car, he nearly missed a pedestrian that was crossing the street. Police said multiple people fled the scene from the car.

Officers detained Garrison and said they found a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car, as well as firearms in plain view. As they were searching his car, they  found more than five pounds of marijuana in different bags and backpacks, several different stolen handguns, a small scale and other pre-packaged bags of marijuana.

The temporary tag was also expired as of July 2024 and appeared to be illegitimate, according to the citation.

The victim in the other vehicle that Garrison hit suffered serious injury and was transported to UofL Hospital.

Garrison was also transported with minor injuries, and told officers he did not know the names of anyone else that was in the car with him. He was out on bond for multiple violent felony offenses at the time of the crash, according to the citation.

He is being charged with fleeing from police, leaving the scene of an accident without rendering aid, and receiving stolen property (firearm), as well as several other drug and traffic charges. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday.
