LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 62-year-old Louisville man is charged with assault after police said he shot a man for knocking on his front door.
Police said it happened in the 9600 block of Westport Road on July 20. That's when the victim was shot in the leg after he knocked on Michael Rodgers' door, according to court documents. Investigators said Rodgers admitted to the crime, and told police he was mad because the knocking bothered him and woke him up.
Both the victim and Rodgers know each other. Rodgers said he knew the victim wasn't a threat and "overreacted."
The victim survived, but required surgery to treat the gunshot wound to his left shin, according to the arrest report.
Rodgers pled not guilty in court on Monday, and the judge issued a $100,000 cash bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 29.
