LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man who killed a teenage girl in a drunk driving crash was sentenced to prison Thursday.
Eric Johnson, 47, was sentenced to five years after his conviction in the death of Haley Hines, 18, on Nov. 15, 2022.
Louisville Metro Police said Johnson was drunk when he drove in the wrong direction on New Cut Road, near Colonial Gardens, into a vehicle. Hines was a passenger in the vehicle, and died at the scene. The driver of the vehicle she was in and another passenger were injured.Â
Johnson was arrested at the scene of the crash after he was unable to follow directions during a field sobriety test and stopped cooperating with police. Arresting officers said Johnson's eyes were bloodshot and they could smell alcohol on him, and a "large plastic Subway cup" was found shoved under his vehicle.
Last month, he pleaded guilty to reckless homicide, assault, operating a vehicle while intoxicated and driving without insurance.Â
