LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Louisville man is facing several charges after police say he led officers on a chase in a stolen car and injured an officer.
According to court records, 21-year-old Davion Fleming was arrested Friday evening after running from police. Louisville police said members of the Criminal Interdiction Division–Violent Crime Unit were surveilling Fleming and attempted to stop him in the 4300 block of South 3rd Street after they saw him driving a stolen car.
When police tried to arrest Fleming, he jumped into the car and drove off, "using the vehicle as a weapon/deadly instrument and intentionally struck" a police cruiser, injuring the officer inside. Fleming approached the officer, who was still in his police cruiser, and pinned the officer's upper arm against the door.
Fleming then fled police in the stolen car driving throughout the city. LMPD's Air Unit stayed with Fleming and followed him to the 4600 block of Tipsy Circle, off Cane Run Road, where LMPD officers saw him running on foot in an apartment complex.
LMPD officers attempted to apprehend Fleming, but he jumped in the stolen car again. While resisting, Fleming put the car in drive and drove off with the officer still holding onto the car's doorframe, his citation said.
LMPD's Air Unit continued to track Fleming, who police said reached speeds of more than 90 mph. Fleming eventually stopped the car in the area of Montana Avenue and Central Avenue, running on foot into a gas station on Taylor Boulevard. Fleming continue to resist, but police were able to arrest him.
Fleming is charged with assault, wanton endangerment, fleeing police, and receiving stolen property among other charges. He pleaded not guilty in arraignment court Saturday morning, and is being held in Louisville Metro Corrections on a $50,000 cash bond. He is due next in court on Jan. 20.
