LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man charged with murder was found with contraband while being moved to a different floor after his arraignment Saturday.

Maurice Byars appeared in court again Monday morning on a new charge of promoting contraband. According to his arrest citation, Byars was being moved from the booking floor to another floor when officers strip searched him.

They found two rubber gloves filled with tobacco in his underwear.

Byars is accused of killing 37-year old Amanda Miller, who was shot in May 2023 in a CVS parking lot near the Smoketown neighborhood.

She died at the hospital.

Police first announced detectives were searching for 33-year-old Maurice Byars in connection to this case in September 2023. LMPD said at the time that Miller and Byars were dating but had only been together three weeks.

According to police, he was located and arrested Friday without incident. LMPD Swat converged on a residence in the 1200 block of South Preston Street and arrested him.

On Monday, the judge added $1,000 to Byar's previous bond of $175,000. If he posts bond, he'll be placed on home incarceration.

He's expected back in court next week.
