LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Louisville Metro Police are looking for a man they said broke into a Valley Station home and assaulted an 82-year-old woman late Friday night.

LMPD spokesman Matthew Sanders said dispatchers received a call about a home invasion at 11:50 p.m.

The caller said a man broke into her home through a patio door, assaulted her and stole valuable items like a wallet, cash and a phone.

The victim suffered "severe lacerations that required immediate hospitalization," police said.

Police are describing the subject as a man with a black jacket, a possible white or light gray hoodie and black pants.

Images show the suspect carrying a hatchet at one point in the 11200 block of Deering Road while he was checking door handles to homes and garages before the initial home invasion.

Police said moments before the home invasion, the suspect can be seen in the 1100 block of Ridge Lake Drive carrying a 3 foot long crowbar.

LMPD is asking for residents in the area to be on the lookout because the suspect may live in the area.
