LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A school resource officer in the Madison Consolidated School District and was arrested Thursday after a 15-month state police investigation led to child seduction charges.
Indiana State Police said in a news release Thursday that Timothy Armstrong, 63, of Madison, had "inappropriate communication with a juvenile male student" multiple times between April and August 2022.
During that time, Armstrong worked as an SRO in the Madison school district. In August 2022, the district acknowledged there was an ongoing external investigation after getting a report of misconduct on Aug. 18.
Armstrong was put on administrative leave. Shortly thereafter, he resigned from both his position in the school district as well as his post as a Jefferson County sheriff's deputy.
After a 15-month investigation prompted by a tip to ISP, a special prosecutor charged Armstrong with:
- Attempted Child Seduction, Level 3 Felony
- Attempted Promotion of Child Sexual Trafficking, Level 3 Felony
- Vicarious Sexual Gratification, Level 4 Felony
- Child Solicitation, Level 5 Felony
- Attempted Child Exploitation, Level 5 Felony
- Official Misconduct (Three Counts), Level 6 Felony
- Inappropriate Communication with a Child (Three Counts), Class B Misdemeanor
"The school district cooperated fully with authorities from the time the initial report was made and throughout the process of the external investigation over the last fifteen months," Madison Superintendent Teresa Brown said in a written statement Thursday. "The district has no further comment on the matter. Please direct any further inquiries to law enforcement."
Armstrong was arrested Thursday in Madison and taken to the Jennings County jail. Before serving as a school resource officer in the district, Armstrong was a city police officer and served as mayor of Madison from 2008-11.
