LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man is dead after a standoff in the Shawnee neighborhood early Tuesday, and police say he took his own life.

The incident started around 8:40 a.m., according to a news release from Louisville Metro Police. That's when 2nd Division officers were sent to the 4600 block of West Market on a domestic violence call. Officers met the victim, who said she was assaulted by a man inside her home, at a location away from the residence.

As police attempted to make contact with the suspect, officers reported hearing a shot fired as they approached the residence. That's when officers called for support from the LMPD SWAT team, who surrounded the home.

Around 11:45 a.m., SWAT officers sent a drone inside the home "and observed the subject deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound."

LMPD officers did not fire their weapons during the incident, according to the release. LMPD's Public Integrity Unit will lead the investigation because LMPD officers were on scene when the fatal shot was fired.

LMPD has responded to approximately 3,885 calls for domestic violence since Jan. 1, 2025, according to the release, and such calls are always dangerous and possibly violent.
