LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man was hit and killed by a car in the St. Denis neighborhood Thursday morning.

Louisville Metro Police spokesperson Dwight Mitchell said in a news release that officers received a call around 5 a.m. of a crash involving a pedestrian on Cane Run Road at Lees Lane, near Cane Run Park.

A witness said that a man was crossing Cane Run Road eastbound when he was hit by an SUV that was traveling northbound.

The SUV then fled the scene, Mitchell said.

A second vehicle, also traveling northbound, did not see the victim in the roadway and also hit him. That vehicle and driver remained at the scene.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The witness at the scene also said that the pedestrian was in the crosswalk at the time of the crash, but he was crossing against the traffic light.

LMPD's Traffic Unit is investigating.
