LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man surrendered after a SWAT response in Fern Creek Saturday night.
Matthew Sanders, a spokesman for the Louisville Metro Police Department, said the SWAT team around 6:30 p.m. responded to a house in the 9200 block of Vevey Road on a suspect barricaded inside.
The man, identified as 20-year-old Jayden Smith, eventually surrounded to police after 10 minutes.
According to court documents, Smith had a verbal altercation with a woman after she refused to give him her bank card.
Smith then took her phone and left. But Smith came back and began banging on the door then forced entry by kicking in the back door.
Court documents state the woman fled to a nearby home and called police. Another man tried to intervene but Smith pulled out a handgun and police arrived.
According to court documents, Smith fled to the basement and locked himself inside.
He's been initially charged with burglary, menacing, criminal mischief and theft by unlawful taking.
