LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Pennsylvania man was arrested Thursday night in southern Indiana after being chased by police 12 miles up Interstate 65.

In a news release Friday, Jeffersonville Police Chief Kenny Kavanaugh said the department was tipped off Thursday that authorities in Somerset, Pennsylvania, believed the suspect in a "violent shooting" was in southern Indiana. Officers spotted the suspect, identified as Andrew Vega, driving near Veterans Parkway and attempted to stop him.

Kavanaugh said Vega briefly stopped for officers before speeding away just before 7:30 p.m., leading officers chasing him up I-65 until he exited at the Memphis exit. The Clark County Sheriff's Department, Clarksville Police Department, Sellersburg Police Department and Indiana State Police assisted Jeffersonville officers in the pursuit.

After getting off I-65, Kavanaugh said Vega got out of the car and ran from officers. They established a perimeter and had Vega in custody by 9:04 p.m., Kavanaugh said. Police believe Vega was armed at the scene.

"I applaud my officers and the assisting law enforcement agencies for their timely response, which resulted in the suspect being strategically contained in an arranged perimeter," Kavanaugh said in a news release Friday.

Vegas is charged with resisting law enforcement on foot and reckless driving. He's being held in the Clark County jail on a $100,000 cash bond.
