LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Bullitt County man who had skulls and other human remains in his home was sentenced to prison for nearly three years on gun charges.

James Nott of Mt. Washington pleaded guilty in November to illegally having a gun. On Monday, Nott was sentenced by a federal judge to 33 months in prison and another three years on probation.

Nott was arrested in July 2023 after the FBI obtained a warrant for his arrest as part of an investigation they started in 2022. According to court documents, Nott purchased human remains online using the alias of serial killer "William Burke."

During the search of his home on Love Avenue, agents found ammunition and guns, including an AK-47 with loaded magazines, dummy grenades and a loaded .38 revolver.

While searching his home, investigators also found around 40 human skulls, spinal cords, femurs and hip bones. The skulls were decorated and around furniture in the apartment. One of the skulls had a head scarf around it, while another was on Nott's bed.

Nott was not charged charged for the human remains in his home that were mostly used as decorations.

Nott was given a similar sentence more than a decade ago for felony violations, including possession of an unregistered destructive device and possession of a firearm by an unlawful user of marijuana.

His attorney would not talk to WDRB News on Monday. The FBI did not comment when asked if Nott could face additional charges for having bones in his home.
