The child's grandmother has told FOX19 NOW she had guardianship of Avery from three weeks after her birth to near the time of her fourth birthday. Then, the little girl was placed back with her mother, who was sentenced to six months in a state prison after pleading guilty to an attempted child endangering charge in 2012.
Avery's grandmother expressed gratitude to Cincinnati police for their hard work and care for the little girl. She also said two funds have been established.
"We would like to thank the police department for their efforts," Tammy Manor Risen wrote in a Facebook posting Wednesday. "They gave Avery a voice. We have not had time to mourn Avery as we are still fighting for her remains to bury her with dignity.
"Our family: Tammy Manor Risen(grandmother) Timothy David Hobbs (grandfather) Jonathan Risen (step-Pappy) Angela M Williams(aunt) Greg Williams Jr. (uncle) and ultimately JamieLee Hobbs ( Avery's father), she wrote. "It is with our deepest gratitude for all of your support and again the police efforts. There are two funds set for Avery.
