LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police in Florence, Kentucky, are warning residents of a new "ding-dong ditch" trend involving kids and young adults.

Police said the incidents mimic the old prank. However, those involved are now targeting homes in the middle of the night, kicking doors and damaging property.

Parents are being told to be aware of their kids' whereabouts during the evening and overnight.

Police said it may seem harmless, but a 3 a.m. wake-up call to someone kicking their door could lead a homeowner to take defensive action if they believe a break-in is happening.

The incidents are under investigation. Florence police said charges will be filed against anyone responsible.
