LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police arrested three people after unruly crowds spilled onto Bardstown Road early Sunday morning, for the second weekend in a row.
The arrests come just days after LMPD said it's increasing weekend patrols in the area of Bardstown Road and Baxter Avenue.
Those plans were announced last Thursday, after hundreds of people filled Bardstown Road in the Highlands on Memorial Day weekend.Â
The most recent incident happened Saturday night (May 31) and continued into early Sunday morning (June 1), according to a news release from LMPD. That's when officers from the 5th Division "responded to an unauthorized street takeover attempt" in the 1000 block of Bardstown Road, with a large crowd gathering in the area.
"Due to the size and volatility of the crowd, the department's Rapid Response team was deployed to restore order" after "multiple altercations," according to the release.Â
Two women and a 16-year-old girl were arrested. The women are identified as 22-year-old Antayvia Brown and 20-year-old Jakaya Snyzer. Brown was allegedly seen fighting near the Chipotle at 1075 Bardstown Road, while Snyzer was arrested near the Taco Bell at 1069 Bardstown Road. Â
"We recognize the disruption this caused to residents and businesses in the area and appreciate the public’s cooperation and patience," Mitchell said in the release. "Our officers remain committed to maintaining peace and protecting the safety of all community members."
Brown is charged with disorderly conduct and criminal trespassing. Snyzer is charged with disorderly conduct. Both women are due in court for an arraignment hearing on June 4. The teen is not being named because she is a juvenile.Â
Residents around the area said it has become a weekly occurrence. Businesses around the area shared their frustration with WDRB News.Â
"I don't want to come in one day and find that this place is just destroyed, my windows are broken like other businesses down the street," said Dallas McGarity, chef and owner at The Fat Lamb.
"I'm going to sell every bit of these buildings and let somebody else deal with it because I am tired," said David Stacey. "I don't know what I am going to find when I come in the mornings."
Mayor Craig Greenberg considered the possibility of bars in the city closing at 2 a.m., instead of the option to stay open until 4 a.m.
"We are not afraid to take action on businesses or individuals that are violating the law that are not acting properly in what should be an area for people to have safe enjoyment," Greenberg said.
Highlands Tap Room announced Monday it will close at 2 a.m. instead of 4 a.m.
