LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A robbery suspect was arrested Monday night after Louisville police searched for 10 hours in the Pleasure Ridge Park neighborhood.
Officer Chris Baker, a spokesperson for Louisville Metro Police, said officers responded to the intersection of Dixie Highway and Upper Hunters Trace just before 1:30 p.m. after a reported robbery.
Police said the suspect evaded officers, and a search of the area began.
Multiple schools in the area were placed on heightened alert while officers searched the area, police said.
In an update at 3:28 p.m., LMPD said those schools could "return to normal operations."
LMPD said at 11:39 p.m. that 47-year-old Jason Mathes was taken into custody "after the longest game of hide-n-seek we've played in a long time."
Mathes was charged with:
- Four counts of robbery
- One count of fleeing or evading police
- One count of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon
- One count of possession of a controlled substance, first offense (meth)
- One count of fleeing or evading
The robbery investigation remains ongoing.
According to court documents, Mathes allegedly brandished a handgun and demanded cash from a Subway, Pizza Hut, PRP Stop & Go and Wingstop throughout August.
Detectives were conducting surveillance on a bicycle left near a Wingstop on Monday when Mathes began riding away. Police said a handgun fell to the ground after a detective identified himself.
He was eventually arrested in the 1800 block of Kendall Lane.
Mathes pleaded not guilty in court Wednesday, where Judge Mary Jude Wolford set an $100,000 bond.
