LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Several schools in Oldham County lifted a brief soft lockdown Thursday afternoon after an armed individual was reported in the parking lot of the Crestwood Walmart.
Oldham County Police originally asked people to avoid the area near the store due to "an armed individual in the vicinity." An Oldham County dispatcher said the incident occurred in the parking lot.
All area schools — Kenwood Station Elementary School, South Oldham Middle School and South Oldham High School — were originally on a soft lockdown, an OCS spokesperson said, due to a "suicidal individual." But that's since been lifted, and the schools are expected to dismiss as usual.
Police said later Thursday afternoon that the man was holding a handgun against his chest inside a car and eventually shot himself. He died shortly thereafter.
