LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A second teenager is facing charges for firing shots near a bus stop on the first day of classes for Jefferson County Public Schools.

In a news release Wednesday, Louisville Metro Police said the suspect is a 15-year-old who allegedly had an "exchange of gunfire" with the other suspect near 10th and Chestnut streets on Aug. 7. The suspect is charged with 33 counts of wanton endangerment and possession of a handgun, second offense.

Surveillance footage in the area captured one of the suspects, which generated tips that led to the arrest of the first suspect on Aug. 9. That suspect was a 15-year-old boy who faces the same 33 criminal charges.

Police said the "shootout" between the two individuals happened in front of dozens of schoolchildren waiting for the bus.

"Children as young as six-years-old were seen running for safety," according to the release.

The scene was also close to two schools and the YMCA.

Louisville police are investigating the fatal shooting Wednesday morning of a woman walking a child to a bus stop in the same area. LMPD initially arrested the above teenager for Wednesday's shooting but said hours later that he was just in the area but didn't pull the trigger. Chief Paul Humphrey said he was questioned and released, though LMPD said hours later the same teenager was arrested for the Aug. 7 shooting.

Anyone with additional information on either shooting is asked to call the anonymous tip line at 502-574-LMPD (5673).
