LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A southern Indiana man was sentenced to 30 years in prison Monday after a child texted 911 to say he sexually abused her.

According to Jefferson County Prosecutor David Sutter, an investigation began April 23, 2026, when dispatch received a text to 911 from a child alleging ongoing sexual abuse by a man.

The child told Jefferson County deputies David Osborne, 52, had been sexually assaulting her for years and had touched her that evening.

"This case highlights the life-changing impact that a simple text to 911 can have for someone in crisis," Sutter said. "We are thankful that this technology was available when it was needed most, and we hope others know that help is available even when making a phone call may not feel safe or possible."

The victim was taken to the Children's Advocacy Center of Southeastern Indiana where a forensic interview was conducted.

Officials said Osborne admitted to law enforcement he touched the child at least two times. He was arrested and charged with child molesting. He pleaded guilty to the charge May 13, 2026.

Osborne was sentenced to 30 years in the Indiana Department of Correction, with five of those years suspended to supervised probation. He will also be required to register as a violent sex offender for life.

"We are grateful to the many agencies that worked tirelessly throughout this investigation," Sutter said. "Their swift response and dedicated collaboration during the late-night investigation have led to this successful conviction and sentence."
