LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A New Albany, Indiana, man was sentenced this week after he pleaded guilty to child molestation of a juvenile under the age of 14.
In a social media post Friday, Floyd County Prosecutor Chris Lane said Keaunte Brown-Patterson, 28, was sentenced to 40 years in prison after agreeing to a plea deal last month.
In April 2024, New Albany Police started investigating after a juvenile said an incident occurred with Brown-Patterson, according to the Probable Cause Affidavit. Police learned Brown-Patterson, a convicted sex offender at the time, spent the night at the same residence as the juvenile the night before.
Police said Brown-Patterson admitted to the allegations shortly after the investigation started. He was initially arrested on a unrelated warrant for failure to register as a sex offender. He was later charged with child molestation, a Level 1 felony.
Lane said in the post that in most cases of child molestation, the offender is someone the juvenile knows, and encourages parents to have conversations with their children.
“The juvenile in this case was incredibly brave to share what occurred and it ultimately is what brought forth and secured a conviction,” Lane said. "Together as a community, we can hold these offenders accountable.”
