LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A southern Indiana sheriff's deputy remains in critical condition after being shot last Friday.
According to Indiana State Police, Orange County Sheriff's Deputy Zac Andry was shot four times during a traffic stop on Highway 150 near West Baden at 12:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3 by 33-year-old Austin Schepers.
ISP said Andry noticed a car pulled over on the side of the highway. During the stop, Andry suspected criminal activity and asked Schepers to step out of the car. That's when ISP said Schepers shot Andry and sped off.
ISP said Andry underwent surgery not long after the shooting and was reported in critical condition, but stable.
In an update on Thursday, ISP said Andry's condition remains the same, critical but stable, at UofL Health Hospital in downtown Louisville. Master Trooper Philip Hensley said Thursday Andry is under sedation and is being assisted with the use of a ventilator.
"Doctors and specialists remain optimistic and are pleased with the amount of fight that Deputy Andry continues to put forth towards his recovery," Hensley said in a news release. "While each day has continued to bring new medical challenges, Andry has continued to press forward and overcome those trials."
The suspect in the shooting, Schepers, was shot and killed by police in Louisville on Saturday, Jan. 4, after an extensive manhunt.
ISP said police located Schepers in the 3700 block of Wheeler Avenue, off Taylor Blvd. in Louisville, in the backyard of a home on Saturday, Jan. 4. LMPD Chief Paul Humphrey said Schepers shot at officers. Multiple LMPD officers and U.S. Marshals deputies returned fire.
Schepers died at the scene. There was a heavy police presence in the area, but no police officers or people in the area were injured in the shooting, LMPD said.
Humphrey said there is body-worn camera footage from the shooting. LMPD plans to release the footage within 10 business days.

From 8 a.m. until noon this Saturday, Jan. 11, the sheriff's department will be conducting the road block on the Public Square in downtown Salem, Indiana. Residents are being asked to drive through the road block and drop of a donation in one of their donation buckets.
Those who can't make it through the road block on Saturday are encouraged to donate to the Springs Valley Bank and Trust account. Donations can also be made through the Indiana Fallen Heroes Foundation.
