LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville family was getting ready for bed around 10:45 p.m. Monday at their home on Shelbyville Road near Oxmoor when a car stopped out front.
"We were upstairs just reading on the iPads," said a Louisville man who lives in the home and didn't want to be identified out of fear of retaliation.
"And me and my wife heard eight to 10 gunshots."
The man said he and his wife hit the floor to the sounds of glass breaking. They said it sounds like it was right outside the front door.
"Oh my gosh, I can't believe this is happening," he remembered thinking.
And it practically was in their front yard. Home surveillance video shows a car stop in the center lane. The video then immediately shows three muzzle flashes pointed in the direction of the house.
"It's really scary," he said.
The man and his wife crawled to the room next door, where they have their security cameras hooked up to monitors. At that point, they only saw one car turning out of a nearby driveway and called police.
They went downstairs to check to see if anything was broken and found a bullet hole a few feet above the couch in the living room. It ricocheted up into the ceiling.
"If I was sitting on the couch and that had (ricocheted) down, it would've hit me," he said. "It was a very scary feeling, but thank goodness I was upstairs with my wife and my sons."
The man wanted to share what happened in hopes other families living near Shelbyville Road between Lyndon Lane and Hurstbourne Parkway might also have video that could help police catch the person responsible. He believes it was a road rage incident.
"For an individual to do this and to shoot at another person just because they're angry and then to shoot up a neighbor — an adjacent property owner's house — is unacceptable," he said. This whole ordeal is completely unacceptable."
Louisville Metro Police said Thursday there is no update on the case.
