LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The man accused of killing two people and wounding four others when he opened fire at a downtown Louisville restaurant is still trying to find an attorney.
Arthur Simson appeared before Jefferson District Judge Tanisha Hickerson Monday morning for what was originally scheduled to be a probable cause hearing. But that hearing was rescheduled because Simson still didn't have an attorney.
Simson said his family thought he might be able to hire a private attorney, but he instead asked Judge Hickerson to appoint a public defender.
Earlier this month, a not-guilty plea was entered on Simson's behalf on two counts of murder and four counts of assault.
During his first court appearance, Simson said the shootings were self-defense.
But police say he was the primary aggressor in the shooting at the Southern Lounge last month. According to court records, on Aug. 30, three days after the shooting, he turned himself in, along with the gun used in the shooting.
Simson allegedly told police he was working security and that he was the man seen on surveillance video during the shooting.
He's currently in jail on a $1 million cash bond. Simson is scheduled to be back in court Oct. 5.
