LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A woman was hospitalized in critical condition after a shooting at an American Legion post in the Parkland neighborhood early on Jan. 1.
According to a news release from Louisville police, it happened around 2 a.m. at 2719 Greenwood Avenue. That's where LMPD responded to reports of a shooting. Officers arrived at the scene to find the victim -- a woman believed to be in her 50s -- with a gunshot wound inside the building, according to the release.
Officers attempted to render first aid until EMS and Louisville Fire arrived. She was then taken to UofL Health Hospital in critical condition, with injuries described as life-threatening.
Due to the severity of the woman's injuries, LMPD's homicide unit is now leading the investigation. Detectives are working to learn what led up to the shooting as well as a possible motive, but no suspects have been announced in the case.
