LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Bicyclists, walkers and skaters took to a road in downtown Louisville typically buzzing with traffic on Sunday.

CycLOUvia came to Main Street in an event focused on improving the community's physical and mental health. Founded in 2012, CycLOUvia is for all ages and offered a chance for attendees to see what downtown has to offer.

Traditionally held each in fall in the Highlands along Bardstown Road, CycLOUvia brought locals to Main Street. The popular downtown corridor was closed to vehicular traffic between 10th and Wenzel streets for walking, riding and dancing.

LouVelo bikeshare program offered free two-hour rides throughout the afternoon.

"I actually live outside the city and get to ride my bike around where I live, but being able to ride downtown is kind of neat," Laura Olinger, a Louisville resident said.

CircqueLouis performers moved up and down the street, showing off their skills.

There was also a communal chalk mural led by local artists at 9th Street behind Louisville Knot.

Balloon artist Terry Kelley said it was good to see everyone having a good time.

"When I came down and took a picture during COVID there was no one and now people are out and smiling and having a good time," he said. "You don't think about this many people on bikes. It's really neat. I've enjoyed it."

Children played at Resurfaced, which had inflatables and the Balloon Man of Kentucky.

"For people who have not been in downtown for a while maybe this will be a nice easy way to kind of get your feet wet and reacquaint yourself with downtown," Rebecca Fleischaker, Louisville Downtown Partnership executive director said. "But it's also important to have a fun activity where people are comfortable and confident and are having a good time."

The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts, Louisville Bats, the Muhammad Ali Center and the KFC Yum! Center are also taking part.

Local businesses also set up tents, along with food trucks.
