Darrell Griffith launches sports restaurant on U of L's campus

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Darrell Griffith expects a slam dunk for the opening of his new restaurant this week.

The former U of L star and NBA player launched his first restaurant called Griff's on Monday. It's an upscale sports restaurant on U of L's campus at Cardinal Towne.

The place will be decorated with historic photos from Griffith's basketball career.

"Basketball always teaches you how to achieve in a team concept and when you're in a restaurant, it's a team concept," Griffith said. "Everybody's on team Griff now and we want to make sure we deliver a good product to the public, and when you do that, that's when you win."

The menu combines flavors from his travel in the NBA with his mom's cooking.

One of his favorite dishes is the fried chicken and sweet potato waffle fries, covered in a praline sauce.
