LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A heads up for drivers who use the Sherman Minton Bridge — a directional closure is scheduled to happen this weekend.

The westbound lanes from Louisville to Indiana, the entire top deck of the bridge, will close around 10 p.m. Friday and last the entire weekend.

The lanes are expected to reopen around 6 a.m. Monday, July 22.

Crews will work on hanging cables and striping.Ā

There's also a closure in the eastbound lanes. Starting Friday around 6 p.m., until Saturday afternoon around 1 p.m., only one lane will be open from New Albany to Louisville.

The ongoing construction is partĀ of theĀ Sherman Minton Renewal Project,Ā which involves painting and rehabilitating the 61-year-old bridge. The project is anticipated to give the six-lane, double-decked span up to 30 more years of life.

The project is currently in it'sĀ fifth and final phase, which started in May and is "expected to last through late summer." It consists of replacing vertical hanger cables, replacing lighting, equipment installation, painting and adding permanent striping.
