LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — As Men’s Health Month continues, doctors are urging men to stay on top of routine screenings that could catch serious health problems before symptoms appear.
One of the biggest concerns is prostate cancer, the most commonly diagnosed cancer among men in the United States. More than 192,000 men are diagnosed each year.
Because symptoms may not appear in the early stages, many cases are found through routine blood tests and physical exams. Early detection can improve treatment options and help prevent the cancer from spreading.
Most prostate cancer cases are diagnosed in men 65 and older, though health experts recommend discussing screening timelines with a doctor, especially for those with a family history of the disease.
The awareness campaign comes as UofL Health promotes prostate cancer education and screening opportunities in Shelby County.
Shelbyville Hospital's Men's Health Fair is also returning this weekend, offering free screenings including PSA tests, cholesterol checks, glucose screenings and blood pressure checks.
