LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB/WAVE) — Sunday was filled with fun, laughter and memories for several children in the Louisville area.

Dream Factory of Louisville held its summer picnic at Kentucky Kingdom. The event brings together local children with critical or chronic illnesses.

It is a day for families to step away from everyday realities of illness while spending time making new friends, sharing stories and supporting each other.

For many, it was more than just a day of rides and food.

“It is very nice to be able to have them relate to others in a similar circumstance,” said Eric Wright, part of a Dream Factory family. “It is really good for Debby and me because we’re experiencing this as a family with children with special needs, and it really does help us out to be able to connect to those people.”

The Dream Factory started in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, in 1980 and is the largest all-volunteer children's wish-granting organization in the country.
