LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Get ready for some sticker shock if you live in eastern Jefferson County.

Jefferson County Property Valuation Administrator Colleen Younger said 70,000 properties will see a change in their assessed value, meaning larger tax bills.

Homes and businesses in areas 8 and 9 in Jefferson County were reassessed this year. That includes areas like Prospect, Norton Commons, Glenview, Graymoor-Devondale, Anchorage, Lyndon, Hurstbourne, Douglass Hills, Middletown, Lake Forest and Polo Fields.

"Buyers are paying more because there are less homes on the market. So we could see a jump as much as 20 to 25 percent," Younger said.

The Jefferson County PVA will begin mailing out postcards on April 24 to commercial and residential property owners if their assessed value has changed.

If you believe your value is incorrect, you can appeal online starting at noon April 24 until May 18, or during special in-person hours.

PVA staff will be available in person to help property owners with the online form at the following locations:
