LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Jefferson County Public Schools board is taking applications to fill the seat left open by the sudden resignation of Diane Porter.
Porter resigned her District One seat in West Louisville Oct. 24 citing ongoing health concerns. The JCBE is now accepting applications to fill the vacancy.
State law requires the board to fill the position within 60 days of the vacancy, so the board has until Dec. 23 to fill the seat. Applications will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 28.
Anyone who wants to apply for the board seat must fill out the Board Vacancy Application Form.
Applicants also need to file a letter of intent with the board, including an affirmation of eligibility (applicants must be at least 24 years old, a citizen of Kentucky for at least three years, and registered to vote in the district of the vacancy) and a transcript evidencing the completion of 12th grade or equivalency.
The board will discuss the applicants and could interview them. The final selection of who will fill the seat will be held in an open session by the board.
Application: To apply for the board seat, fill out the Board Vacancy Application Form.
