LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Medical students at the University of Louisville are taking their next step toward becoming doctors.Â
Friday was "Match Day." That's the day med students learn where they will continue their training, after they graduate from UofL in May. The 120 students were joined by family and friends, as they opened their envelopes to find out what residency program they matched with and where they will be moving.Â
Joseph Holland was excited.
"I was super ecstatic to open up my envelope with my family and find out I'm going to Boston, to Harvard for dermatology," he said.
"I matched at IU, and I'm just over the moon to have my family and friends here to support me. Absolutely incredible. Now I can say I'm going to be a plastic surgeon. I've been wanting to be a doctor my entire life," said Claire Fell.Â
The National Resident Matching Program administers a process for matching medical school applicants with residency programs based on the preferences of both. A matching algorithm uses those preferences to match individuals into positions.Â
Graduating medical students across the country traditionally have "Match Day" each year at noon on the third Friday in March.
