JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) -- Classrooms across Greater Clark County Schools came back to life Thursday morning as more than 10,000 students returned from summer break.

Some of those students are now in two brand new schools—Pike Elementary and Charlestown Elementary schools.

Daniel Borders, the Director of Transportation, was at the bus compound bright and early Thursday morning said the biggest challenge is getting all of the students to their schools safe and on-time.

Greater Clark County Schools have around 120 buses this year that will transport right under 8,000 students, according to Borders.

Students who would have previously gone to Wilson and Thomas Jefferson elementary schools will now get their Kindergarten through 5th grade education at Pike Elementary.

The new state-of-the-art building features updated amenities, including a slide inside the school—which has many students eager to start the upcoming school year.

Charlestown Elementary is taking in the student populations from Jonathan Jennings and Pleasant Ridge Elementary.

Jeffersonville High School was excited to unveil its newly renovated cafeteria to their students Thursday morning, generating more of a "college feel." The renovation included new booths and tables, a new food station, and new decorations.
