LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Indiana released the results from the latest ILEARN testing Wednesday morning.
Officials with the Department of Education said English and language arts (ELA) scores are up for most grade levels, while Math scores were down slightly.
The results come from the ILEARN tests administered to students this past spring. Even though math scores slightly decreased compared to last year the state said Math proficiency is significantly up compared to the 2021 baseline scores.
Data show ELA proficiency in grades four and six is the highest it has been since the pandemic. Statewide 41% of Indiana’s students are proficient in ELA, and 40.7% are proficient in math.
"We have work to do," said Indiana Secretary of Education Dr. Kate Jenner. "We know that. We're going to continue to roll up our sleeves as educators and keep working hard, and also partner with our parents and families. It has to be a partnership. We can maximize learning the most -- we know this -- when it's educators plus the parents and families."
The state recently redesigned the ILEARN assessments, and a new "through-year system" is expected to roll out as a pilot this upcoming school year.
There will be three checkpoints throughout the year, and an assessment at the end of the school year.
State officials said 70% of schools opted to participate in the new system, and it will roll out to all schools in the 2025-2026 school year.
