LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Two Indiana University fraternity pledges were hospitalized after an alleged initiation event that has now led to hazing charges against seven students.
According to court records, the students are members of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. Prosecutors allege they hazed more than two dozen prospective fraternity members during an October 2025 initiation event.
Investigators said the pledges were required to complete about three hours of strenuous physical activity.
Two pledges later were hospitalized for several days after developing rhabdomyolysis, a condition that causes damaged muscle tissue to break down and release proteins into the bloodstream. The condition can lead to serious complications, including kidney damage.
Indiana University issued a cease-and-desist order to the fraternity shortly after learning about the alleged hazing.
The Phi Kappa Psi chapter remains suspended, according to Indiana University. The criminal case remains pending.
