LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Outgoing Jefferson County Public Schools' Superintendent Marty Pollio will face staffing cuts on the first day of his new job.

Ivy Tech Community College is cutting more than 200 jobs.

It comes as leaders try to shore up a $54 million shortfall blamed on less state funding and a tuition freeze.

The layoffs started Friday and continue this week.

Ivy Tech is Indiana's statewide community college system, with campuses located across the state, including one in Sellersburg. Reports say the cuts impact both teaching positions and school staff.

Pollio takes over as the 10th president of Ivy Tech July 1. He was elected in April by the Ivy Tech Community College State Board of Trustees as the college's 10th president, following a national search.

Last September, he announced he would be stepping down as superintendent July 1 this year after nearly three decades with Kentucky's largest school district. He was named superintendent in 2017.
