LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Families with students attending Jefferson County Public Schools said they're still struggling with delays.
On Monday, some Louisville Male High School families received a message that there was a three-and-a-half-hour delay on a bus route. The school district said many of the delays are due to bus driver call-outs.
JCPS spokeswoman Carolyn Callahan said the school district has 579 bus drivers, but 43 drivers called out Monday. On Friday, 59 drivers called out, and the district has already spent the year trying to combat a bus driver shortage.
John Stovall, the president of Teamsters Local 783, which represents the district's bus drivers, said a lack of student discipline is creating problems for bus drivers.
JCPS is still considering cutting bus routes for magnet and traditional students to help with bus driver shortages. At a board of education meeting in September, Pollio said that the days of the school district providing transportation to every student are likely coming to an end.
