LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB/WAVE) — As schools across Jefferson County prepare to welcome kids back into the classroom, one elementary school principal is looking at a new way to keep students engaged.
At Indian Trail Elementary, Principal Uriah Tolbert is heading into his second year leading the school. Tolbert said the school is taking a back-to-basics approach after noticing a slide in reading and math levels at the school.
That includes spending less time on Chromebooks and more time focusing on face-to-face interaction.
"We want to make sure that we are also building up the social skills with our teachers and our students," Tolbert said. "A lot of times they hide behind a screen on Facebook, TikTok or Instagram or whatever it is, and they're losing that face-to-face interaction."
Tolbert said the administration is still trying to figure out how the Chromebook reduction will work but said students and teachers should notice a difference this year.
JCPS students return to school this Thursday.
