The school district shared the plans with the public during a community meeting at the existing elementary school.
JCPS proposed purchasing about 3.2 acres of Okolona Park to build the new school.
The current elementary school is across the street from the park. At 51 years old, the school opened in 1972 and is at the top of the district's facilities replacement list.
Because the park is the property of Louisville Metro Parks and Recreation, Metro Council would have to approve any sale.
If approved, construction on the new two-story school could start next year.
