LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jeffersontown High School students sank or sailed Wednesday during an annual competition that dates back more than two decades.
The school hosted its 26th annual Cardboard Boat Regatta at the Plainview Swim Center, with students racing boats they built themselves.
It was a chance for the student teams from J'town's Computer Aided Drafting program to finally test the cardboard boats. The students spent months researching, planning, designing and building the boats for months.
"My boat was a little too wobbly, I had a hard time staying on top of it, it was close but couldn't keep it," said senior Kyle Hunter.
Hunter, who has participated in the competition for the past three years, said the CAD room had a new laser cutter this year.
"I got to be really specific with my drawings, and I have a model of my internal boat structure," Hunter said.
Students were only allowed to use a few sheets of cardboard and duct tape to create their boats.
