LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky Community & Technical College System is increasing its tuition next year.
The board of regents approved an in-state tuition increase of $3 per credit hour for the 2024-25 academic year, which increases tuition for in-state students to $189 per credit hour. Out-of-state students will pay $260 per credit hour.
According to a news release Tuesday, the board of regents also approved a scope increase of $7 million for the Jefferson Community & Technical College parking garage using agency funds. That brings the total of the project to $27 million. Officials said the project is critical to student recruitment and retention.
Last week, KCTCS president Ryan Quarles provided an overview of his first 70 days in the role to the board of regents.
"We should own the community college space, the vocational, technical and transfer component and have a special tool in the toolbox for workforce development. We must realize the situation we’re in as well," Quarles said in a news release. "We must embrace the situations, create an action plan, and be proactive about it."
KCTCS said by the end of the 2023-24 academic year, around 105,000 students will enroll in either an associate program or one of 106 technical programs offered. Since its creation in 1998, KCTCS has served more than a million Kentuckians while maintaining the lowest tuition in the state.
